Afghanistan and Taliban: History and Present Situation.

From around two months Taliban is strengthening its control on Afghanistan. Around 90 percent of Afghanistan border is now in control of Taliban. Is it possible that without any conflict between borders Taliban enters Afghanistan? A reporter asked US president Joe Biden in July whether a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan was inevitable. “No, it is not”, he said, pointing To the presence of 300,000 well equipped Afghan security personnel.

Little more than a month later the Afghan military completely collapsed. It lost control of much of the country often without putting up a fight and allowed Taliban to take over. On August 15, Taliban fighters marched into Kabul.

How did the 83 billion dollar US effort to train and equip the Afghan military go so wrong? Why can’t Afghan stop Taliban. Afghan that over the past 20 years had learned to rely upon US support for air power, intelligence, logistics, planning and other vital enable enables was fatally demoralised by US decision to abandon it.

An Afghan special force officer told the Washington post that many Afghans saw the troop withdrawal deal that Donald Trump administration signed with the Taliban in February 2020 as the end.

In 1979 Afghanistan President and Communist leader Noor Mohammad turkey was killed. There were partition between Communist groups and Islamist groups in Afghanistan. The country next to Afghanistan was Iran in which same situation was observed on one side there were Islamists whereas on the other were leftist and Communist.

In 1979 Islamists took over Iran therefore a sense of fear was found in President of Afghanistan that the similar situation might not occur in Afghanistan therefore he promoted Islamism to bring them towards him. However, this led to a different scenario where Soviet union intervened Afghanistan to promote communism.

As Soviet Union was undergoing Cold War they criticised and humiliated USA, therefore USA started supporting the opposition party in Afghanistan which was led by Mujahideen. Due to support of USA, Pakistan and Russia Mujahideen took over Afghanistan. During this a new group took birth called Taliban which started with 50 students that later on became powerful. Initially they showed as being innocent and helpful but when they got a huge support the true faces got revealed.

Because of this reason USA assigned its army troops in Afghanistan for their protection which costed them around $2 trillion. On September 11, 2001, a terrorist group in Taliban called Al Qaeda conducted 9/11 attack on America for which Al Qaeda leader Osama bin laden writes to USA that it was done as a revenge.

There for USA on May 2, 2011 killed the leader Osama bin Laden. But still Taliban did not stay quiet they still popped out from different regions. In year 2020, Donald Trump started talk of peace with Taliban. He said if Taliban cancel the connection with Al Qaeda that they will withdraw their army troops from Afghanistan.

In recent days what is happening is that US troops have been withdrawn by the American government from Afghanistan as what the policy said. Now as the Afghanistan army were fully dependent upon US army, now as they have left afghan are not able to withstand against Taliban because of the dependency for over past 20 years.

What can be the role of United Nation in this situation ??

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.

United Nations have stated to maintain peace and also there should be continuation of basic necessities. Moreover, it also urges to all countries to be willing to receive all the Afghan refugees.
